office decor

If you have an office-based job, you spend a lot of time in the office. Which means it’s important to make your time there inspiring, engaging, and a little fun. Unfortunately, not all offices can be like the Googles and Facebooks of this world. However, there are some things you can do to liven up your office space which don’t include slippery dips or bikes. Here are four suggestions on how to liven up your office:

  1. Get clever with the décor

There are ways to upgrade the office décor without spending a fortune or having to engage the professionals. These can be subtle changes which can make a huge difference to the space such as a simple addition of colour. Our waterbeads (also known as Jelly Beads)can be used to add colour and vibrancy to any area. Place them inside glass bowls or vases to add an instant splash, or add them to flower arrangements to make the colours pop. Plants are also a good way to create a more colourful and calming work environment instantly. Adding artwork can add colour and character. We have so much choice now, you can be as original or cost effective as you like. There are galleries out there which will rent artwork to your office, or you can shop at Ikea or Kmart for something a bit more run-of-the-mill.

  1. Take the team Go Karting
Culture and the way your staff interact with each other is so important to any company. As with life, there are good times and bad. Times of high-stress can cause disparity in the office. When this happens it’s time to reconnect. Or perhaps you want to celebrate some good news, or a successful quarter? Team building activities are a sure way to reconnect, a great way to celebrate, and a chance to blow-off some steam. Go karting is an exhilarating way to spend the day. With loud engines, fast karts, and intense corners, the whole team will be able to test the limits of their cornering skills. There’s even a chance for them to go full-throttle and leave the tensions of the office behind them. If you’re located in Melbourne we highly recommend taking the team to Ace Karts.

  1. Treat them with a weekly trolley
Who doesn’t love a treat now and then? Depending on what type of office you are, this could be a weekly morning-tea trolley complete with doughnuts, coffee, tea, and other yummy goodies. Or, how about a health-kick? Think juices and smoothies for everyone. Or, if your office is in need of something a little stronger, perhaps a themed Friday afternoon drinks trolley, with wine, beer, soft drinks, and nibbles. Of course, if there is alcohol involved, it should always be served responsibly.
  2. Get the music pumping

Music engages the section of the brain involved in concentration (Study by the Stanford University School of Medicine). So why not make it a collaboratory experience. You could have a particular theme for each day, such as ‘Motivational Mondays’ or ‘Fun Fridays’. Or, you could allocate the responsibility to a different person or team each week or day (depending on the size of your office). With the likes of Spotify it’s so easy to access an eclectic mix of playlists based on mood, genre, or even decade, to set the tone.
